Happy Earth Day,
Happy Earth Day, everyone!
This is my 1st annual Earth Day promotion and I'm really excited about it! From Earth Day through Arbor Day, I have special photography sessions that include a tree from our local nursery. I've given these trees as gifts to friends for housewarmings, newborn babies and other milestones, so it's great to extend it to clients. The owner of the nursery, Judy, gives great attention to having quality trees and plants and is also a wonderful conservationist.
Clients can choose from a cotton-less Cottonwood tree, Golden Willow, Choke Cherry or Golden Delicious apple tree. I'll be delivering them myself at the photo session, to save on fuel and be able to get photos of them with their trees. It's amazing what memories can be recalled by a photo, some dirt and the green leaves of a healthy growing plant!
We're also working on plans for an online photo guide that shows how to plant and care for the trees. This will be photographed at our local community gardens to increase awareness of the gardens.
Warmest regards from a snowy day in southwest Montana. It'll be at least a few weeks before we'll be planting these trees. When Judy transitions them from the greenhouse to outside, she blankets them on the colder nights to keep them from freezing! Planting will be late May or early June, depending on the weather.

Earth Day Promotion
Since I am a new member, I'm writing an Earth Day blog about joining Greener Photography and how important it is to me to be accountable for my impact on the earth both personally and with my business. As a promotion, your own contest gave me an idea - I was thinking of offering a special outdoor portrait session fee to anyone who comments with tips and suggestions on how they are trying to make a difference helping the environment. From that, I will draw a winner for a free 11x14 fine art giclée print from their session. I will also encourage all my fellow photographers to join Greener Photography! ;)

Earth day promotion
On Earth Day I plan to create a buzz with my clients leaving comments on what they do to reduce their imprint. I am requiring a minimum of 25 responses before someone is picked so it will get people thinking about what they do or don't do. Most original wins a spring portrait session.

I heard an idea a few years back, which I thought was clever. It was an Earth Day portrait package, where the photographer offered "plant a tree" packages. It was a family portrait session completely focused around planting a tree as a family. Isn't that cute?
